Natural Treatment for Recurrent Tonsillitis

Tonsillitis is a common problem faced by everyone once in a lifetime. The recurrent tonsillitis is more seen in children as compared to adults. In general, the inflammation of the tonsils is known as tonsillitis. Tonsils are two oval-shaped pads of tissues that are present at the back of the throat. Bacterial and viral infections are the main cause of tonsils. The Streptococcus pyogenes is the main bacteria responsible for tonsillitis.

The recurrent tonsillitis is defined into three categories:

  • When you get episodes more than seven in a year.
  • When tonsils occur more than five episodes during two years.
  • If a patient has tonsils in more than three episodes in three years.

What are the Signs and Symptoms of Tonsillitis?

  • Tenderness in the neck
  • Stiffness in the neck

What are the Causes of Recurrent Tonsillitis?

The most common cause is bacterial infections that are caused by Streptococcus pyogenes. The strains of other bacteria may also be a reason for tonsillitis.

Tonsils are non-contagious but if its cause is bacteria or virus than it may be contagious.

Diagnosis and Tests for Recurrent Tonsillitis

Your doctor should perform some sort of physical examinations like:

  • Palpating your neck for checking swollen lymph nodes.
  • Through a light instrument looking for throat, ears, and nose.
  • Listening to the breathing pattern.
  • A doctor may also recommend you for a rapid strep test or may obtain a culture for checking the bacteria.

Which Home Remedies You Should follow While having Recurrent Tonsillitis?

There are different home remedies that you can use at home for getting quick results

  1. Mint: It is a very beneficial remedy for tonsillitis. You can have two glasses of water, add a few mint leaves in it. Boil this water until remaining one cup. Strain the mixture and let it cool down for sometimes. Gargle with this natural It will give you a long relief from tonsillitis.
  2. Salt Water: This is the common and effective home remedy that we are listening from our grandparents since childhood. Take a glass of warm water put a teaspoonful of salt in it. Gargle your mouth with this water for five minutes. You will surely get relief from a painful throat condition.
  3. Tulsi: The herb is also known as holy basil. As in this herb the anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral properties shows good result in tonsils. Take a few leaves of Tulsi in two glasses of water. Boil it until remaining one cup. Strain the mixture & drink. It will give you good relief in recurrent tonsillitis.
  4. Turmeric: One of the oldest herbs that boost-up your whole immunity. Take a cup of hot water adds a half teaspoon of turmeric & salt in equal quantity. Gargle with this water twice daily.
  5. Fenugreek: The anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-viral properties of this herb give good results in recurrent tonsillitis. Take three cups of water, add two teaspoonfuls of fenugreek seeds in it. Boil the mixture until remaining one cup. Strain the mixture let it cool down. Gargle with this water for 15 to 20 minutes.

Ayurvedic Treatment For Recurrent Tonsillitis

Ayurveda is the best way to cope up with any type of health issues. There are numerous herbs in Ayurveda that deals with recurrent tonsillitis and boost up the overall immunity of an individual. In Ayurveda, tonsillitis is correlated to tundikeri.

तलुगतास्तु – गलशुण्डिका, तुण्डिकेरी , अध्रुश , मांस कचछप , अर्बुदं , मांस संघात , तालु पुप्पट :, तालुशोष , तलुपाक इति। (सु। नि १६ /४२ )

This shloka represents the different types of talugat diseases: galshundika, tundikeri, adhrush, manskachap, arbud, manssanghat, talupupput, talushosh, and talupak. These are a total of nine types.

शोफ: स्तूलस्तोददाहप्रपाकी प्रागुक्ताभ्याम तुण्डिकेरी मता तु।

शोफ: स्तब्धो लोहितस्तालुदेशे रक्तज्ञेय: सो अध्रुषो रुग ज्वररदया। (सु। नि १६ /४४ )

This shloka is of tundikeri (tonsilitis): Due to Kapha and Rakta imbalance, there is pricking pain in throat, swelling, and irritation. Adhrush (palatitis) in palate dushti of rakta give rise to pain, fever, redness of throat, and swelling.

Dosage: One to two capsules twice daily with plain water after meals.

5. Amla Saar
