How To Treat Blemishes Naturally?

A spot, a mark, discoloration or a flaw that appears on the skin is called a blemish. Blemishes may be pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, eczema, chickenpox rashes, nodules, age spots, ingrown hair, pustules, birthmarks, melasma, cold sores, scars, and hyperpigmentation.

Blemish may be unsettling but they are not life-threatening. However, some blemishes may signal skin cancer. They can occur in any part of the body but the ones on the face are most disappointing. They may occur in any color: red, brown, black, white

Causes of Getting Blemishes

The first and foremost cause of blemish is excessive oil production by the body. The pores get clogged due to dead skin and excessive oil, leading to acne. The pimple may go but it leaves behind the scars and blemishes.

Blemishes like cold sores are caused by viruses. Some blemishes are due to skin infections. Genetics also plays a role in causing blemishes to occur. In some cases, blemishes are a result of overexposure to the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays.

1. Tomato Juice

To naturally remove skin blemishes, tomato juice is an excellent remedy. The fresh juice of tomato should be applied directly onto the blemishes and left for 15 minutes. This treatment should be done daily until results are visible.  Tomatoes are rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants. They are very effective in shrinking pores, healing the skin and clearing blemishes. The high lycopene content in tomatoes helps in getting rid of dark stubborn spots.

2. Potato Juice

Potatoes contain enzymes that act as a mild bleaching agent and helps in lightening up the dark spots when used topically. Potato juice can easily be obtained by grating the potato and squeezing out the juice. It may be left on the blemish for 10 minutes and rinsed off with cold water. Potato juice can be applied daily for faster results.

3. Cosmetic Clay

Make a thick paste using cosmetic clay and water. Gently apply the paste onto the blemishes and allow it to dry. Rinse it off after 30 minutes. This helps in getting rid of blemishes very quickly.

4. Essential oils

Tea tree oil or Lavender Essential oil should be mixed with water to dilute and applied onto the blemishes using a cotton ball. This is a very effective way to get rid of blemishes directly.

5. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is the best home remedy to treat acne and heal blemishes and scars. Aloe Vera contains antioxidants and polysaccharides that help in the growth of new skin cells. A gel from Aloe Vera can be easily extracted from a fresh Aloe Vera leaf. Simply apply this gel to the skin, and wash it off, once it gets dried. wash it off, If the gel doesn’t feel too sticky, it can be left on overnight. One can see a visible difference in a month.

6. Egg White

Egg whites contain natural enzymes to tone and even out the skin and lighten up the blemishes and scars. One needs to apply the egg white onto the face, using fingers or brush and let it dry for few minutes. Once dry, rinse it off with cold water and apply a moisturizer. This can be applied twice a week for best results.

7. Cinnamon and Honey Paste

Half a spoon of cinnamon and honey may be mixed together in the form of a paste and applied onto the blemishes directly. The paste may be left on for half an hour or even overnight for better results. The skin needs to be rinsed with warm water to remove the left-over paste.

Honey has anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that helps in lightening up the scars. The humectant and emollient properties of honey nourishes the skin cells and keeps it healthy. Honey can be applied as is onto the scars for fifteen minutes and washed with cold water.

8. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar is well known to balance the pH of the skin while killing microbes inside or outside the body. ACV has mild acids that help in lightening the blemishes and also controls excess oil production. ACV should not be applied directly onto the skin. It should be diluted in water and used as a spray over the face. The treatment can be done once daily.

9. Lemon

Fresh lemon juice should be applied on to the blemishes and left for 20 minutes to penetrate in the skin. This helps in lightening up the dark spots within a month. Lemon juice is a natural bleaching agent, for sensitive skin, dilute lemon juice with some water and apply.

10. Cocoa Butter

Cocoa butter has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties that help in fighting blemishes. Gently massage the blemished skin with cocoa butter and leave it overnight for better results.

11. Baking Soda

A paste can be prepared using baking soda with few drops of olive oil. This paste should be applied on the blemished area for 10 minutes. Scrub off the paste with cold water.

It is always recommended to opt for natural treatment as over the counter products are chemical laden which may cause dryness, skin irritation and flake. Natural treatment is safe to use and has everlasting results.

Along with using natural remedies, it is important to take care of the skin by eating a healthy diet, getting proper sleep, leading a stress-free life, drinking adequate water and protecting the skin from direct sun exposure. Sunglasses, hats, sun protective clothing and sunscreen should be used.

It is also important to regularly cleanse the skin (body and face) to help eliminate excess oil, dirt, and bacteria. Always use a noncomedogenic moisturizer for hydration of the skin. Try not to prick on pimples, instead use ice to soothe it down.
