Sarcoidosis mainly affects the people of any age, race, and gender but it usually affects before the age of 50 years and in Americans, Africans and European countries it is highest among the ages of 20 and 40. Its incidence varies widely throughout the world because of the changes in the environment, predisposing HLA alleles, case-surveillance methods along with the genetic factors.
As Per Ayurveda Aspect
In Ayurveda, sarcoidosis has not been mentioned properly but can be correlated to the symptoms caused due to the accumulation of ama (toxins) in the body. The ama gets accumulated in the praanvaha strotas due to the vitiation of pitta and kapha dosha which causes an increase in the mamsa dhatu that leads to the formation of swollen lymph nodes.

Sarcoidosis is characterized by the growth of abnormal masses or nodules which are also called as granulomas which consist of inflamed tissues in various organs of the body. There may be alteration of the normal structures and functions of the affected organs by the granulomas.
In acute condition, symptoms can occur very suddenly but not long lasting. The symptoms are fever, swollen lymph nodes, joint pain, tiredness and red colored rashes on the skin.
But when the symptoms develop gradually and stay for longer period it is termed as chronic sarcoidosis. The symptoms are usually few but they may get worse with time.
What Are The Main Causes Of Sarcoidosis?
The main cause of sarcoidosis is unknown but some experts have stated that it results when the body’s immune system responds to an unknown substance. This condition is more common in females than in males. People with a family history of sarcoidosis have a higher risk of developing sarcoidosis. The areas which are commonly affected by sarcoidosis include Lymph nodes, eyes, skin, lungs, heart, liver, spleen, and brain.
What Are The Symptoms Of Sarcoidosis?
People with sarcoidosis usually do not have any symptoms. But the symptoms may vary and depend upon the organs that are affected. This condition gradually develops and produces symptoms that last for years. But the general symptoms may include:
- Fever
- Fatigue
- Dry mouth
- Joint pain
- Bleeding from nose
- Swelling on the abdomen and joints like ankle joint
Skin-Related Symptoms
Symptoms Include:
- Reddish-purple colored bumps or rashes on the ankles or shins
- Tenderness
- Lesions on the cheeks, nose, and ears
- Areas on the skin become lighter or darker in color
- Formation of nodules around the scars
- Tender lymph glands in the groin, armpits, and neck
- Hoarseness of voice
Heart-Related Symptoms
Symptoms are:
- Fatigue
- Shortness of breath
- Pain in chest
- Irregular heartbeat
- Fainting
- Swelling due to the accumulation of excessive fluids
- Rapid heartbeat
Lungs Related Symptoms
It commonly affects the lungs and can cause lung problems:
- Chest pain
- Shortness of breath
- Persistent cough (Dry)
- Wheezing sound
Eye Symptoms
It may affect the eyes and can cause such problems:
- Pain in eyes
- Blurring of vision
- Redness in the eyes
- Dry, itchy and burning in eyes
- Watery discharge from the eyes
Nervous System Symptoms Include
- Loss of hearing
- Headache
- Seizures
