Arakeshwar Ras – Ayurvedic Benefits, Uses & Key Ingredients

REFERENCE: RASTANTRASAAR & SIDDHAPRAYOG SANGRAHA PART 2/Raktapitta/ Chapter -11/ Formulation 3

Abstract

In contemporary clinical hematology and periodontology, chronic bleeding disorders, microvascular fragility, mucosal hemorrhages, and nutritional deficiency states like Scurvy present intricate therapeutic challenges. Conventional management relies heavily on systemic hemostatics, vitamin supplementations, and vascular astringents, which often address the symptoms without correcting the underlying systemic tissue debility or hepatic dysfunction. Ayurveda conceptualizes these pathological bleeding tendencies primarily as Raktapitta (a state where vitiated Pitta corrupts the blood tissue) and Sheetaad (Scurvy), arising from systemic nutritional neglect (Abhava of essential nutrition). Left unmanaged, this chronic vascular vulnerability leads to bleeding gums, mucosal hemorrhages from multiple sites, anemia (Pandu), cardiac palpitations, and renal-urinary complications like albuminuria. Arkeshwar Ras is a specialized, copper-dominant (Tamra-pradhan) classical herbo-mineral formulation engineered to arrest severe hemorrhagic conditions. By combining a potent, processed mineral core with repeated herbal infusions of Giloy (Tinospora cordifolia), it strengthens the liver, tones blood vessels, restores mucosal integrity, and systematically reverses nutritional and vascular degeneration.

Intorduction

Arkeshwar Ras is a premium classical herbo-mineral formulation specifically indicated for advanced hemorrhagic disorders (Daruna Raktapitta), severe vascular fragility, scurvy, and multi-systemic debility. It belongs to the esteemed Kupipakwa/Kharaliya Rasayana branch of Ayurveda, utilizing an equal-part formulation of five highly processed Bhasmas (calcined minerals and metals). The defining therapeutic characteristic of Arkeshwar Ras is its copper-dominant (Tamra-pradhan) composition, which directly targets liver function and vascular tone. Fortified with Ras Sindoor, Vang, Abhrak, and Suvarna-Makshik Bhasma, and systematically potentized through 21 successive Bhavanas (infusion-triturative cycles) with Giloy juice, this formulation acts as a deep-acting vascular soothener, hematinic, tissue rejuvenator, and immunomodulator. It stops mucosal bleeding, enhances hemoglobin synthesis, and provides crucial metabolic strength to patients suffering from chronic tissue emaciation.

Hemorrhagic Disorders

Classical indications

  1. Daruna Raktapitta (Severe, acute, or chronic hemorrhagic/bleeding disorders).
  2. Sheetaad (Scurvy and associated microvascular bleeding of the gums and mucous membranes).

Ingredients

  1. Tamra Bhasma (Calcined Copper) – 1 Part
  2. Ras Sindoor (Purified and Processed Mercuric Sulfide) – 1 Part
  3. Vang Bhasma (Calcined Tin) – 1 Part
  4. Abhrak Bhasma (Calcined Mica) – 1 Part
  5. Suvarna-Makshik Bhasma (Calcined Copper Pyrites/Iron-Copper Ore) – 1 Part
  6. Giloy Swaras (Fresh juice of Tinospora cordifolia) – Quantity Sufficient for 21 successive triturations (Bhavana)

Ingredient Description

1. Tamra Bhasma (Calcined Copper)

As the predominant mineral in this formulation, it acts as a powerful hepatic stimulant and vascular rejuvenator. It strengthens the liver (Yakrut), improves bile secretion, and exerts an exceptional soothing (Prasadak) and pacifying (Shamak) effect directly on the walls of the blood vessels (Rudhir Vahiniyan), reducing microvascular permeability and bleeding.

2. Ras Sindoor (Processed Mercuric Sulfide)

Acts as an exceptional Yogavahi (catalytic agent) that enhances the bio-absorption and cellular delivery of the companion mineral compounds. It boosts systemic immunity, rapidly pacifies inflammatory pathways, and sustains cellular vitality during chronic hemorrhagic states.

3. Vang Bhasma (Calcined Tin)

Provides deep tissue rejuvenation (Rasayana) with a targeted affinity for the genitourinary tract and reproductive tissues. It directly addresses semen weakness (Shukra-nirbalata) and physical emaciation, restoring structural integrity and strength to depleted bodily tissues.

4. Abhrak Bhasma (Calcined Mica)

Renowned for its deep cellular protective, anti-hemorrhagic, and rejuvenating virtues. It calms vitiated Pitta, strengthens mucosal tissues, and supports the integrity of the delicate epithelial lining throughout the body.

5. Suvarna-Makshik Bhasma (Calcined Copper Pyrites)

An excellent natural source of iron and copper, highly valued for its hematinic properties. It specifically targets Raktaranjan (the process of blood formation), successfully reversing anemia (Pandu), stopping internal hemorrhages, and relieving associated cardiac palpitations.

6. Giloy Swaras (Juice of Tinospora cordifolia

Utilized for 21 intensive trituration cycles, this herb acts as an immunomodulator, anti-inflammatory, and systemic detoxifier. Its bitter, cooling properties balance all three Doshas (especially Pitta and Kapha) and render the heavy mineral core highly biocompatible and gentle on the stomach.

Method of Preparation

  1. Take equal quantities of the five mineral ingredients: Tamra Bhasma, Ras Sindoor, Vang Bhasma, Abhrak Bhasma, and Suvarna-Makshik Bhasma.
  2. Place the ingredients in a clean, stone mortar and pestle (Kharal) and mix them thoroughly to create a uniform, homogeneous mineral blend.
  3. Add a sufficient quantity of fresh Giloy Swaras (juice of Tinospora cordifolia) to submerge the powder.
  4. Triturate the mixture continuously until the liquid is completely absorbed and the mixture dries out. Repeat this Bhavana process 21 times with fresh Giloy juice.
  5. Once the 21st trituration cycle is complete and the mass reaches a cohesive, rollable consistency, shape it into uniform spherical pills weighing 1 Ratti each (approximately 125 mg).
  6. Dry the pills in the shade and store them in airtight glass containers.

Medicinal Properties

1. Severe Hemorrhagic Disorders & Scurvy (Daruna Raktapitta & Sheetaad)

Administer Arkeshwar Ras alongside Vasa Swaras (Juice of Adhatoda vasica) and Honey. This protocol targets bleeding gums, loose teeth, bad breath, nosebleeds, and bleeding from mucosal linings of the eyes and mouth. The astringent and vasostimulant properties of Vasa, combined with the vascular-soothing (Prasadak) effect of the Tamra-dominant core, rapidly seal microvascular leaks, restore mucosal health, and halt blood loss.

2. Anemia & Secondary Cardiac Palpitations (Pandu & Hrid-dhadkan)

Administer Arkeshwar Ras with a combination of Adusa leaves decoction, Ksheer Vidari powder (Ipomoea mauritiana), and Honey. When blood loss causes a depletion of red-cell quality (Raktaranjan) resulting in anemia, palpitations, and physical weakness, this combination provides a rich mineral and nutritive boost. It restores hemoglobin levels, calms the cardiovascular system, and rejuvenates bodily tissues.

3. Chronic Debility, Emaciation & Reproductive Weakness

Administer Arkeshwar Ras alongside prescribed rejuvenative vehicles like milk or nutritive powders. In clinical cases presenting with high physical emaciation (Sharirik krushata), deep anemia (Panduta), low digestive fire (Agnimandya), and semen depletion (Shukra-nirbalata)—but where active fever (Jvar) and burning sensations (Daah) are absent—Arkeshwar Ras is clinically superior to Chandrakala Ras. Its Vang and Suvarna-Makshik content provides much-needed metabolic strength and tissue nourishment.

4. Hematuria, Albuminuria & Urinary Pathology

Administer Arkeshwar Ras with Adusa juice and Vidarikand Churna.  For patients passing mucus, lymph/albumin, or blood in their urine due to Vata-Pitta aggravation, this protocol provides a soothing, demulcent, and urinary-astringent effect that checks renal-capillary bleeding and prevents protein/lymph leakage.

5. Bleeding Disorders complicated by Diarrhea (Atisara)

Administer Arkeshwar Ras with Dadimavaleha (pomegranate jam) or sweet-and-sour pomegranate juice. Pomegranate acts as an exceptional Grahi (absorbent) and Rakta-Stambhak (hemostatic). This combination checks hyperactive bowel motility, resolves diarrhea, and simultaneously controls blood loss from the lower gastrointestinal tract.

Impact on Dosha

Arkeshwar Ras is a potent Pitta-Rakta pacifying formulation with secondary actions on Vata and Kapha. Pitta & Rakta: Its cooling (Sheeta) processing with Giloy and its copper-dominant core directly soothen and stabilize highly inflamed, heated Pitta, preventing it from corrupting the blood tissue (Rakta Dhatu) and causing hemorrhages.
Vata & Kapha: It redirects upward-surging errors (like hematemesis or epistaxis) downward. The presence of Vang and Abhrak balances Vata-induced tissue wasting, while Giloy regulates Kapha-related mucus discharges.

Indications

  1. Daruna Raktapitta (Severe bleeding from the nose, mouth, eyes, or urinary tract)
  2. Sheetaad (Scurvy) characterized by bleeding gums, loose teeth, and halitosis
  3. Pandu (Anemia) accompanied by cardiac palpitations
  4. Urkshat & Raktavaman (Chest injuries, pulmonary lesions, and vomiting of blood)
  5. Albuminuria, Hematuria (Presence of blood, mucus, or albumin in urine)
  6. Sharirik Krushata (General physical emaciation and low tissue vitality)
  7. Shukra-Nirbalata (Semen weakness/depletion)
  8. Atisara (Diarrhea co-existing with bleeding disorders)

Dosage

  • Standard Dose: 1 to 2 pills (approx. 125 mg to 250 mg).
  • Frequency: 2 times a day.
  • Dietary Rule – Must be taken alongside a light, wholesome, and highly nutritious diet (Laghu, Pathya, Paustik Bhojan) to maximize therapeutic outcome.

Contraindications

Medical Supervision: Must be taken strictly under the guidance of a certified Ayurvedic physician due to its heavy metal and mineral content. Contraindications: Avoid in patients running high-grade acute fevers (Jvar) or experiencing intense, uncontrolled burning sensations (Daah) unless specific cooling measures are taken, in which case Chandrakala Ras may be preferred. It is contraindicated in pregnant women, lactating mothers, and infants.

Conclusion

Arkeshwar Ras represents a brilliant clinical application of Rasashastra (Ayurvedic alchemy) for vascular, hematological, and nutritional pathology. Rather than offering a temporary astringent action to stop bleeding, it addresses the deep hepatic and vascular roots of bleeding disorders. By toning the liver, strengthening vascular walls, correcting systemic anemia, and nourishing depleted tissues, Arkeshwar Ras provides a complete, multi-systemic therapeutic approach to restoring blood health, sealing mucosal surfaces, and rejuvenating overall physical vitality.
