1. Infection

some viruses and parasites can contaminate the liver and cause inflammation that lowers  liver work.Virus can be grown throughout semen or blood, contaminated water or food and close connection  with a person who is affected.The most common virus which causes liver disease are hepatitis A, B or C.

2. Cancer or  tumours

Infection due to Hepatitis B or C is the common risk factor of liver cancer . Most of the time cancer is spread from other body organs  like your breast or lungs but some cancers can begin  from the liver.

3. Itching in the skiN

It can be due to the presence of bile salt which accumulates under skin and creates itching which is also known as pruritus. Itchy skin can sometimes show liver disease. Other liver diseases such as primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) and primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC). may also cause itching . Although , itching is produced during pregnancy due to hormonal changes and stretching skin. It can lead to a liver condition which is called intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy  (ICP).

Bile acids  do not move easily with ICP. they develop in the body and cause itching.

  1. Immune system problems-Immune system fights with harmful viruses and bacteria but sometimes it may go wrong and attack one or more organs of your body, it can be the liver.
  2. Autoimmune hepatitis is a disease in which the body’s immune system attacks the liver and causes inflammation and liver harm.
  3. Primary biliary cholangitis attacks on small tubes which are called bile ducts.They carry out bile, a chemical which helps in digestion . When the ducts are damaged, the bile backs up behind the liver and scars it.women are affected more often than men.
  4. Primary sclerosing cholangitis scars bile duct and can ultimately blockage. The bile builds up inside your body and creates difficulties for the liver. It is harder for the liver to work  properly.later on it may lead to liver cancer or need to be transplanted . It is more often in men.

4. Genetics

There are many limited liver conditions that are studied as inherited but two most usual genetic liver diseases are Hemochromatosis and alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency that can cause liver condition.

  1. Use of excess alcohol  damages the liver.
  2. Taking too much medication is also harmful .
  3. High  amounts of fat scars the liver and  lead to other conditions like cirrhosis.

Diagnosis of liver Disease

A set of blood tests known as liver function tests. Other blood tests are used to specify genetic disorders and particular  liver conditions.Imaging tests such as ultrasound, MRI, and CT scan are used to determine  injured liver. Liver biopsy operates to extract tissue samples from skin by inserting a long needle to identify the symptoms and causes of liver damage .
