Abstract
The large intestine of Gastrointestinal tract has different parts as cecum, ascending colon, transverse colon, descending colon, sigmoid colon, and rectum. Cancer of the large intestine is known as Villous adenoma. A benign tumor of any glandular tissue is known as Adenoma. A polyp colon adenoma or colorectal cancer as villous adenoma is very common and is seen in increased age groups. These tumors are required to be treated as early as possible because initially they are benign which can be converted into malignant if left untreated. Here is a brief introduction of Villous adenomas with its symptoms and management to reduce it and live a healthy life through herbal cures which are free from all chemicals.
Introduction
Colorectal cancer is seen in the epithelial lining of the large intestine which is benign initially. When these abnormal cells start dividing fast and growing, then it’s hard to cure as they are converting into a malignant stage. Adenomatous polyp is very common in colon regions. Males are more affected than females. Villous adenoma is called ‘Villous’ because of finger-like epithelial projection inside the colon. Columnar epithelial cells cover the adenoma. It is a benign tumor. These adenomas mainly grow into the glandular organs but sometimes they are seen in non-glandular organs. Adenomas can convert into malignant form in later stages also. Even in a benign state these adenomas can cause serious complications.
- Location of these adenomas are the mucus layer of stomach, small intestine, colon, in digestive tract they grow into the lumen as polyps. It can be pedunculated or sessile. It can be tubular, villous, or tubulo-villous.
- In Ayurveda, Villous adenoma is caused due to aggravated Pitta which leads to Dusti of Vata Dosha. Polyp-like projection is called ‘Granthi’ in Ayurveda.
- In Susrut samhita Nidana Sthana 11 is having a full explanation about the Granthi and Arbuda, both are the types of cancer.
- In Su. Ni 11//3 has an explanation about Granthi that vitiated ‘Vata dosha’ pollutes the ‘Masa, Rakta, Kaphaj and Meda dhatu‘ of the body and leads to the formation of a Villous like inflamed projection called Granthi.
Granthi is of Following Types
- ‘Vatik granthi’ is Long, painful, blackish, hard and has secretions in it. (Su. Ni 11//4)
- ‘Paitik granthi’ has a warmth and burning sensation. Reddish yellow in colour and is having warm secretions oozing from it. (Su. Ni 11//5)
- ‘Kaphaj granthi’ is cold in nature with normal colour of skin, less painful, itchy, hard, and slowly growing. When it bursts, it has a white pus secretions. (Su. Ni 11//6)
- ‘Medoj granthi’ grows with the age of a person and is of bigger size with itching in nature. (Su. Ni 11//7)
- ‘Siraaj granthi’ is very painful in nature and is difficult to treat. (Su. Ni 11//8-9)
Ayurveda explains in Su. Ni 11//16-20, about ‘Arbuda’ as a tumor which is caused due to increased Kapha dosha and Medoj dhatu are Raktaj Arbuda, Medoj Arbuda, Vataj Arbuda, Pittaj Arbuda, Kaphaj Arbuda and Masaj Arbuda.
