(Charaka. Sutra 17/74)

The sign of life is observed from the senses of different types of bodily reflexes and they are also situated in the heart.

(Charaka. Sutra 17/73)
Above verse states that-When the ojas is diminished in our body, the affected individual becomes fearful, weak, worried about small things, have disorders related to the sense organs of our body, his/her body luster become deranged and mental ability or strength got reduced, his body appears as rough and emaciated.

(Charaka. Sutra 30/9-11)
This verse states that
The ojas, which maintains the life of an individual by its saturation, without which no life of living organisms exists, is the initial essence of developing embryos and of its nourishing material. When it gets destroyed it will lead to the destruction of life also.
Factors responsible for diminution of ojas
There are various nidan (causes) that leads to decrease in the amount of ojas/ vyadhikshmatav and they are as follow:

- Vyayam (excessive exercise)
- Anshan (over fasting)
- Chinta(who take stress in excess amount)
- Ruksh alap pramitashan (consume rough, little and very less diet)
- Vataatpo (exposure of wind and sun)
- Bhayam (fear)
- Shoka (grief)
- Rukshpan (intake of unctuous drinks)
- Prajagran (sleep deprived)
- Kapha shonit shukranam malanam chatipravartnam (excessive discharge of mucus, blood, semen and other body excreta)
- Old age and injury induced by pathogens.
