Diagnosis Of Crohn’s Disease
If any person observe any of the above symptoms then he or she must visit a doctor. However, there is no permanent test for the diagnosis of Crohn’s disease but the doctor may recommend various types to confirm the diagnosis of Crohn’s disease. Some common tests include:
Blood Tests:
The blood test is further divided into two types of tests i.e. Fecal Occult blood Test and Tests for Anemia or Infection.
- Fecal Occult Blood Test: In this test, the stool of the infected person is tested for the presence of blood in the stool.
- Tests for Anemia or Infection: In this test, the blood of the Infected person is diagnosed to check whether the red blood cells of the person has the ability to carry adequate oxygen to the tissues or not.
Some other tests for its diagnosis include
1.Colonoscopy
In this test the doctor will examine the end of the Ileum or the whole colon with the help of Flexible, Thin and Lighted tube to which a camera is attached. The Doctor may also take Small samples of the Biopsy for further analysis in the laboratory for the proper confirmation of disease.
2. Computerized Tomography (CT)
In CT scan, a special X-ray technique is used by the doctors to analyze the tissues present outside the bowel. Sometimes doctors may analyze the entire bowel. However, CT enterography is a special type of CT scan which provides better images of the small bowel. This test is often carried out with the help of barium X-rays.
3. Balloon-Assisted Enteroscopy
In this test, an overtube is used by the doctor to look further inside the small intestine of the infected person which cannot be diagnosed by the standard endoscopes. This technique is usually carried out when confirmation of the disease is not clear but other test shows abnormalities in the colon.
4. Capsule Endoscopy
In this test, the doctor will ask you to swallow a capsule which has a camera placed inside it. Then that camera takes pictures of the small intestine from different angles and then the pictures are transmitted to a recorder attached to the waist of the patient. After this, the images are downloaded on a computer and then doctor will confirm the presence of Crohn’s disease. After one or two day the camera is excreted out from the body via Stools. Although, this type of Diagnosis is very expensive.
5. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
An MRI scanner is used to create the detailed and clear images of tissues as well as organs on the screen. Basically, Magnetic resonance imaging is used to see the fistula present around the Small Intestine or the Anal Area.
