How to Cure Tooth Decay with Home Remedies

As a child, we were always rebuked for eating too many sweets as it can cause tooth decay. A  Tooth cavity is the most common oral problem and person of any age can face this problem but children and old age people are more prone to it. Oral health is all about the balance of good and bad bacteria, any changes in this balance can lead to tooth decay. Tooth decay is softening of enamel caused by bacteria which breaks down sugar and releases acid in the mouth. Bacteria forms plaque on teeth which is sticky. How to Use It– Dilute clove oil with sesame seed oil pour few drops on cotton and put it on the tooth which has decayed. Do this 2-3 times a day.

2. Garlic


Garlic being is a very common ingredient in our every second dish as it also contains very good medicinal properties. Garlic contains allicin which causes garlic breath, the same allicin is responsible for the antibacterial property of garlic. It acts as a painkiller as well. Raw garlic can also be consumed for maintaining oral health as it has antibacterial properties.

How to Use It– Crush a clove of garlic and mix it with a pinch of salt and apply it on the affected tooth. Use this mixture 2-3 times a day.

3. Turmeric


Turmeric is a super food and bundle of benefits. Turmeric is used since ancient times in Ayurveda to treat tooth decay. Turmeric contains anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties. It also helps to maintain healthy tooth and gums. Turmeric has healing properties as well.

How to Use It– Mix turmeric with mustard oil and apply on the affected tooth and massage it for 10 minutes and then rinse thoroughly with water. Do this twice a day until the symptoms subsides

4. Neem


Chewing and brushing teeth with neem stick is practiced since old times as it is a very easy and handy way to keep intact oral health. Chewing neem releases compounds that are highly effective against bacteria. Neem contains anti-microbial properties. It helps improving oral health as well as gums. Neem also freshens up your breath.

How to Use It– It is very simple you just have to chew some neem stems which are short and soft. Neem oil can also be applied to the affected tooth.

5. Salt


Salt contains antibacterial properties so it can help treat cavities. Salt removes the bacteria from the mouth and removes stickiness of teeth. It relieves pain and removes the infection. Many people use it as a first- line treatment. Salt balances the acidic ph of the mouth which is created by bacteria. It also acts as a disinfectant, helps to loosen the food particles stuck in between the teeth.

How to Use It– Dissolve 1 teaspoonful of salt in one glass of warm water. Use it for mouthwash three times a day until symptoms improve.

Lemon juice contains acid which kills the germs and helps to relieve the pain due to the tooth cavities. But drinking it in much quantity can lead to teeth erosion as it is acidic. Lemons are also rich in vitamin C which helps in the development and repair of body tissues. It plays an important role in the maintenance of teeth.

How to Use It– You can either chew the slice of lemon for few minutes or you can extract the lemon juice and can then apply with cotton on it. Repeat this 1-2 times a day.

7. Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus oil is a very good remedy for fighting gums and teeth problems. Eucalyptus oil has antibacterial properties that kill the bacteria causing tooth decay.

How to Use It– Mix eucalyptus oil with coconut oil to make a dilution and then use it for mouthwash. Use this solution twice a day.

8. Onion


Onion have the antiseptic properties, so it will help to kill the bacteria which will ultimately help to relieve tooth decay and the symptoms causing by it.

How to Use It– Chew a slice of raw onion or you can also rub it on the affected tooth it will relieve the pain.

9. Ginger


Ginger has antiseptic properties that help to prevent bacterial growth and relieves pain as well.

How to Use It- Use ginger juice for mouthwash concentrating on the affected tooth, you can also chew a slice of raw ginger. Chew the slice for 5 minutes approximately.

10. Aloe Vera
