Chikungunya Fever: In the year 1952, the Chikungunya virus first originated in Tanzania. But it spread from South-East Africa to the whole of Africa in a short time. By the year 2004, it spread to South-East countries of Asia, including India. Actually a certain kind of mosquito from Aedes species is the one that is responsible for spreading chikungunya. In India, it turned into a large sporadic epidemic.


Basically its name comes from a South-East African language, Makonde, meaning “stooped walk.” It certainly makes you feel fatigued, lazy, lethargic, restricting your physical activities. All of a sudden body has a high fever your joints start painful and you also have muscle cramps. You don’t feel like doing anything and keep lying in the bed.

Some Home Remedies that can Heal your body from the Chikungunya Virus

1. Coconut Water:

Drinking lots of coconut water is thought to be the best medicine for chikungunya trouble because it detoxifies the liver and flushes out toxins that are residing in the liver and causing all this havoc. The coconut water is a fluid that enhances the urination process, the more the merrier. More you urinate; more toxins are thrown out of your body, making your body get faster relief.

2. Holy Basil (Tulsi in Hindi):

Tulsi holds a sacred name among the Hindu religion and has numerous medicinal properties that take care of your body in a natural style in many ways. Get some Tulsi leaves and crush them in a grinder. Add some water to it to make a paste. Now rub this paste on your joints to reduce the pain. Tulsi has anti-inflammatory power to minimize the pain and also has anti-oxidant properties to make your immunity a strong one that can ward off the chikungunya from your body and you get a speedy recovery. There is another way Tulsi can heal your body.

How to Use
Take 8, 10 fresh leaves of Tulsi, wash them properly with water and put them in half a liter of water and boil this mixture. When the quantity of water reduces to half, take it off the flames. You can drink this decoction throughout the day for 2, 3 days. If the symptoms don’t fade away, drink this for about a week, your symptoms will certainly reduce.

3. Garlic & Bell Pepper:

Dry both of them and then grind to make their powder. Mix them both and add some plain water to make their paste and rub it on your painful joints to get some relief. You can also add both these veggies in your daily diet as these two have a fair amount of vitamins in them that accelerate the healing process. This makes the digestion an easy process, as these are not considered heavy foods. Usually, Garlic is used to relieve joint pains if you rub it on the painful joints. It drives away the pain and inflammation of the body. It also improves blood circulation, showing the door to the chikungunya virus.

4. Grapes with Cow’s Milk:

Taking crushed Grapes without their seeds, along with warm Cow’s milk can prove to be a remedy that heals one from chikungunya symptoms. Chew the grapes, when they are still in your mouth, sip the milk. These two can make your pain & fever vanishes within a short time. Better make sure that the cow eats naturally grown grass and doesn’t have any chemical fodder. The Grapes have phenolic compounds that are full of anti-viral and anti-oxidant properties that bring relief from the chikungunya virus.

5. Ginger:

Ginger is a kind of herb that takes care of chikungunya in an effective way because of its anti-inflammatory properties. It is packed to the brim with immense health benefits. It blocks the way when inflammation raises causing compounds like prostaglandins to generate/produced in our body. Chikungunya virus causes swelling and pain, and Ginger is the one that drives both away.

How to Use

Take some fresh ginger slices and steep them in a hot water cup. If you have the time, boil this mixture for a few minutes before sipping this herbal tea to reap in the maximum benefits. 2 or 3 cups a day is more than enough. You can also massage the ginger oil on the painful area, twice or 3 times a day helps improve the blood circulation and making the immune system stronger. Thus a strong immune system keeps your body away from any infection ambushing infections.

6. Cayenne Peppers:

These peppers have an abundance of capsaicin, an anti-inflammatory agent that bars inflammation from happening. It also blocks the way of the compound that sends signals to the brain about pains.

How to Use

Take 3 teaspoons of Cayenne pepper, a cup of olive oil or jojoba oil or almond oil and a ½ cup of grated beeswax. Put Cayenne pepper in water and boil it for 5-10 minutes on a medium flame. Add beeswax and keep stirring until it melts down completely and gets blended well. Take it off the flames and refrigerate for 10 minutes. After that stir the paste well and see that all the ingredients are mixed properly and refrigerate it once more for another 10 minutes. Take out this brew and apply it on the affected area. Use it whenever you feel the need as this can be stored in an airtight container for about 1-2 weeks. Beware; better use the gloves while making the paste and never touch your face, especially the eyes, while preparing this remedy. This paste might have a tingling sensation if your skin texture is a bit sensitive.


There are various other herbs that can make the healing of chikungunya possible in natural conditions. But before consuming these veggies and fruits, it’s better to make sure that all these come from natural or organically-grown trees. Bed rest is best while your body is infected by this virus. I know that it is not going to last for more than 2 weeks, but is able to weaken your body so much that you keep feeling the pain for many weeks if not handled stoutly.

You can opt for leafy green veggies as these have hoard of vitamins and minerals in them, that can prevent chikungunya to wither away or have fluids like vegetable soups, water, alkaline diet, lemon water, pomegranate juice, etc., which keeps your body fully hydrated and avoid alcohol, caffeine drinks, sodas, soft drinks to prevent the outbreak of chikungunya. You can also do stretching to ease the pain to vanish instead of taking bed rest.
