Abstract

A rectal polyp term is used when polyp formation occurs in the rectum (a part of the large intestine). It is usually not cancerous but when it grows over time it can turn into cancer. Introduction

A polyp is an abnormal tissue growth from a mucous membrane. When a polyp (small lump) is growing from the lining of the large intestine (including colon or rectum), it is known as Colorectal Polyps.

There are two main types of polyps i.e. non-neoplastic and neoplastic. Non-neoplastic polyps include inflammatory polyps, hyperplastic polyps, and hamartomatous polyps. These are asymptomatic and never become cancerous.

Neoplastic polyps include serrated and adenomas types. These polyps are at a greater risk to become cancerous.
