7 Brain-Boosting Herbs for Better Memory

There are numbers of herbs and spices which may help to improve your memory and boost your brain health. Most of them you already knows and some of them has been used in Ayurveda from many years.  The brain is the main part of our body. It provides us with the ability of thinking, understanding, learning, and remembering. If your body and brain not working together then you can’t even think and understand. So our brain plays a massive role in our daily life. The natural herbs are very helpful in brain disorders such as mental fatigue, poor remembering power, memory loss, and low concentration power. Memory loss that disrupts your daily life is one of a symptom of Alzheimer disease. Alzheimer is basically a brain disorder in which a person loses their memory, thinking ability and reasoning skills.

1. Brahmi


The scientific name of Brahmi is Bacopa monnieri. It is one of popular Ayurvedic medicine due to its great brain-boosting property. There are numbers of benefits of this herb such as it helps to open and clarify the mind, improve your concentration, promote the balanced emotional state, boost your brain thinking ability, and strengthen memory. In Ayurveda, there are tridosha such as Kapha, Pitta, and Vata. The Bacopa monnieri helps to balance the Kapha and Vata imbalance in your body.  In Ayurveda, the medicinal properties of Brahmi show: taste- bitter, astringent, qualities- light to digest, cold in potency and whole plant parts are used.  It has an anti-inflammatory property. 2. Ashwagandha


It is also known as Withania somnifera. It belongs to the Solanaceae family. Due to its great medicinal properties, it has been used in Ayurveda from many years. Ashwagandha cure several body disorders such as anxiety, memory loss, poor thinking ability, depression, insomnia, leucoderma, and poor central nervous system.  According to medicinal properties, this herb is pungent, bitter in taste, oiliness, and lightness in qualities and hot in potency. According to the Ayurvedic point of view Withania somnifera widely used in treating anxiety, depression and chronic fatigue syndrome. There are numbers of compounds present in Ashwagandha which increase the production of acetylcholine, the main transmitter of the neural signal and ultimately improves thinking ability and boost your brain. You can take ashwagandha powder or add this in your daily routine. You can also use fresh roots of the plant and chew them.

3. Shankhpushpi


The botanical name of Shankhpushpi is Convolvulus pluricaulis.  It is one of the famous Ayurvedic herb used as a memory enhancer, improve intelligence and boost your brain power. It is distributed all over India but especially in Goa, Gujarat, Bihar, and Rajasthan. Shankhpushpi is bitter in taste, oily and sticky in quality, coolant in nature and mostly used to balance the Pitta and Kapha Dosha. The major chemical constituents in this herbs are B-sitosterol, kaempferol, hydroxyl cinnamic acid etc. It is used to support healthy brain, proper blood flow to the brain and also helps in calming the mind. 4. Rosemary

The botanical name of Gotu Kola is Centella Asiatica. It is mostly found in Asia, South Africa, and South Pacific regions. This herb is a very good source of vitamin B1, B2, and B6. According to Ayurveda, this herb is bitter in taste, light to digest, cold in potency, improve intelligence level and balance the Kapha and pitta dosha in your body.
